It has been nearly 6 months since it was announced that we were getting our long overdue new Bus Station but since then there has been little further news.
Last night I took the opportunity at Public Questions at the beginning of the Council Cabinet meeting to ask if we could have an update on progress. Cllr Simon Greaves, as leader, told me that the District Council are working with Nottinghamshire County Council and there has been positive progress. They will be meeting with the County’s Transport & Highways Committee to finalise the plans for the development. It was hoped that the proposals will be ready to be shown to the public in March and that the planning application would be submitted later this year. I have also written to Cllr Richard Jackson, Chair of the County’s Transport & Highways Committee to see what further information he can give us.
While this is welcome news, it does seem that the never ending delays in getting a replacement to the current inadequate facilities on Hardy Street will mean that the bus users will have to go through both this winter and the next waiting for buses in the rain & cold. It goes to show that we must not stop campaigning for our new Bus Station and, just as Lib Dems have led the campaign so far, we will carry on until we have the Bus Station we deserve here in Worksop
