John Mann still doesn’t really get Fracking

by Leon Duveen on 14 December, 2014

This week our MP, John Mann has finally started to challenge the official Government position on Fracking saying it would endanger the local water supply (especially in Worksop which takes water from the aquifer near Mattersey, one of the sites being considered for a test bore) – see Concerns over water contamination by fracking have been raised by Bassetlaw’s MP in this weeks Retford Times

Why has John Mann taken so long to understand this? I and groups like Bassetlaw Against Fracking have been telling him all about fracking and what is entailed for months. Could it be that he has finally realised that, as most voters in Bassetlaw now oppose fracking, he will lose votes in May unless he says the right things now? Given his track record of flip-flopping on this issue, I have no faith in Mr Mann standing up to oppose fracking if he is unfortunately re-elected.

I am only one candidate in Bassetlaw who has consistently opposed fracking, not just here but anywhere in the UK.  It does not only endanger our water supply, there are many other significant risks from fracking which John Mann has decide to ignore.   There is no evidence that fracking will lower fuel prices or give the UK fuel security while there is lots of evidence that investment now in sustainable energy (wind, both offshore & onshore, solar, tidal, geo-thermal, etc.) will mean significantly lower energy cost in years to come and, because we won’t have to pipe it in from abroad, mean real energy independence for the UK

If you want to stop iGas and their friends fracking near your town or village, then support me as you next MP.
